A career in the Royal Marines developed my managerial skills ranging from combat resolution to youth development. These experiences developed an ability to analyse multiple and often conflicting factors, many that we face in our rural community, to determine a pragmatic resolution.
Qualified as a Landscape designer, I have always had a passion for the environment and the landscape that is around us. Returning to Porlock Weir, the location of the family home for over 40 years, I believe that rural development can be done in a manner that benefits Porlock District but not at the expense of traditional values.
Five years ago I took early retirement as a CEO, and, together with my wife, settled permanently to care for my ageing father. This experience taught me the value of rural social inclusion, not exclusion, and that vulnerable sometimes need greater care than others. This view has been reinforced having been a member of Selworthy PCC and Porlock PC.
If elected I will ensure that our community voice is heard in the new Council.
